White Kitchen Island

In the 1980’s and 1990’s, having a white kitchen island to match a room decorated entirely in that color was completely in style.

Though that fashion faded out for a few years in favor of the more natural colors of woods, not even a decade has passed and the previous color scheme has come right back into focus again.  The bright, happy, clean, and versatile look of a kitchen in this color has made it one of the most popular kitchen islands for sale at the moment.

That being said, if you have cupboards in natural wood or another shade, by adding a white kitchen island to the space, you can immediately modernize the look of the room.  You can do this alone, or you can also paint your  cabinets to match – depending on the look you’re seeking and the style of your existing cupboard doors. These are very easy additions to add to the room without having to spend a great deal of money.  At the same time, they give the room an entirely different and upgraded appeal.

That being said, when you look through the various kitchen islands for sale, you’ll notice that there are different shades of white kitchen islands from which to choose.  There are bright ones in glossy or matte shades, but there are also creams, ivories, and antiqued shades that are more subtle than the most crisp hue.

White Kitchen Island - Consider More Muted Tones

If you’re not quite ready to go back to the brightest white from back in the eighties and nineties, then you might find that choosing white kitchen islands for sale in a more muted shade is more to your liking.  You may also find that combining the white with wood or a granite countertop can break the starkness of having a solid color.  Also, consider choosing hardware for the cupboards and drawers that will give a warmer look to the completed room.

Many people are currently choosing antique, country, or old-fashioned style handles, hinges, and drawer pulls to combine the modern clean edge with a comfortable and welcoming finish.  Consider replacing the hardware from the rest of your cabinetry, too, so that there is a flow in the style of all of the cupboards in the room.

This look works especially well in rooms that already have white appliances such as a refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher.  Though this is not a requirement, it will indeed give you one more way to link the white kitchen island to the overall scheme of the room in a way that may not even have been a part of your initial intention for the décor.

Don’t forget, though, that there is nothing that says that you can’t add a bright splash of color to this look in anything from the hardware to the accessories you place on top of the surfaces.  A punch of color can make the room just that much more pleasing.
